Our oceans are facing an ecological crisis due to their contamination with millions of tons of toxic microplastic particles: within just a few years, the volume of microplastic particles will surpass that of plankton in our seas, transforming them into a vast sea of plastic.
This publication brings together numerous international art projects situated at the intersection of environmental activism, DIY biotechnology, and science, drawing attention to the irreversible consequences of destroying our marine ecosystems—such as the current threat posed by the loss of marine biodiversity or the decline in oxygen production resulting from massive plankton loss. Furthermore, it presents the latest scientific findings regarding sustainable alternatives to plastic.
